Seven Somali Journalists Wounded in Mogadishu’s Suicide Attack

Mogadishu — The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ is dismayed by the suicide attack targeted to Dayah hotel in Mogadishu which caused the death and injuries of of many innocent people. Seven journalists were among the injuries and NUSOJ condemns that incident in strongest possible terms.

All journalists rushed to the scene to cover the incident story and they were caught the second blast which was a car with full of explosive devices parked near the entrance of the hotel. The below names are among the injured journalists.

Abdi Qadar Abdullahi Mohamed who works from radio Kulmiye,

Mohamed Abdiwahab a photographer from AFP

Yusuf Jabuuti who works with Al-Jazeera TV

Abdulkadir Mohamed Ga’al who works with Horncable TV and
Maxamed Abdihakim Gurey who works a local production company Foresight.
Mohamed a freelance journalist.

Members from NUSOJ executive committee visited some of the wounded journalists in hospitals . According to medical doctors there are no so far a severe case of all the seven wounded journalists despite some are still mentally shocked.

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) condemned the attack in the strongest terms possible and called the attack as barbaric.
“We condemn the attack, which wounded our colleague in the line of duty, in the strongest terms possible.” Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu, NUSOJ Secretary General said, “The union sends its sympathies to the whole Somali people who suffered losses during the attack and hopes Somali journalist’s speedy recovery.”

“Somali Journalists shouldn’t risk themselves just because of getting news. There is less training, less responsibility, and some reporters are taking increasing risks through an eagerness to get the first hand news, which may danger themselves, so journalists must do maximum care and protect themselves” Moalimuu added.

Nov 1, 2015 a prominent journalist died a similar blast at Sahafi hotel .Several other journalists were also injured and they had reached to the blast scene after the first explosion.
