Muqdisho | September 08, 2021:A statement from the office of the FGS Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble accused the outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo of still pursuing to influence on the election and security responsibilities despite transferring the same responsibilities on May 1, 2021 to the Prime minister to act as the caretaker during the transition and to pave way for smooth elections.
“On the other note, the PM informs the Somali people that the two statements from the President in the last two days( 06-09-2021 and 07-09-2021) expose that he intends to reclaim elections and security responsibilities that he has already transferred to the Prime Minister. ” the PM said in a statement.
FGS Prime Minister expressed concern over the steps taken by President whose constitutional mandate has ended that is seen to ” obstruct and disrupt ” the pursuit of justice for Ikraan Tahliil Farah, the female intelligence official who was murdered.
” The Prime Minster is concerned that the president’s action are obstructing effective investigation of Ikraan Tahliil Farah’s case. ”
The Prime Minister in the statement disclosed new information in the contraversial case adding that justice and rule of law agencies have been barred from undertaking full investigation without giving details of who specifically prevented such move.
” Justice and rule of law agencies have been previously barred from exercising full investigation ” He said terming the move as ” unfortunate and dangerous existential threat to the country’s governance ”
Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble reiterated his call for the Prosecution and the Armed Forces Tribunal to expedite the investigation into Ikram Tahlil’s case and bring him before a competent court. “All Commanders of the Armed Forces are instructed to fully assist the Prosecution and the Judiciary in fulfilling their responsibilities in this regard,” Roble’s office said in a statement.
He called on the security agencies to take responsibility for maintaining security and stability in the country, protecting the rights of citizens, and being vigilant against any action that could infringe on the freedoms and fundamental rights of the Somali people.
“On behalf of the National Consultative Assembly, the Prime Minister assures the Somali people and the international community that the country’s electoral process will be accelerated and calls for unity so that the elections can end peacefully. ” the statement concluded the statement
The rift between the FGS Prime Minister and the outgoing President of Somalia intensified after Roble fired Fahad Yassin, a decision was opposed by Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
