FESOJ concluded training20 young journalists in Jowhar city, Hirshabelle State

Mogadishu city, Sunday, November 16, 2024: Twenty young journalists have completed a two- day training workshop on improving their professional skills in Jowhar city , the capital city of Hirshabelle Regional State of Somalia from 14th to 15th November 2024.

The capacity building training, conducted by the Federation of Somali Journalist (FESOJ) was held at Beder Hotel in Jowhar city. Twenty journalists, including female journalists, mainly young newly employed designated from various media outlets in Jowhar city were the key participants of the two – day training workshop.

The young media journalists in Jowhar city who has not attended similar training in the last few years has been given the chance to be trained on the key topics, significant for the media focusing on: Journalism ethics, gender sensitive reporting, conflict sensitive reporting, how to make the various types of interviews, news and the value of the listeners, use of social media, – roles and critiques and combating disinformation.

“FESOJ will continue to increase the knowledge of young journalists to improve their work.” Abadir Abdulqadir Elmi, Chairperson of FESOJ said in his opening remarks.

He stated the previously young journalists trained has achieved significant change in respect of improving their professional skills.

On his part, Abdishakur Shaashaa, Deputy Minister of Information of Hirshabelle State emphasized the importance of the training for the new journalists in the media gain knowledge of journalism to make their work much easier.

Halima Mohamed Abukar , female journalists with Radio Jowhar and Mohamed Ali Abukar working with Hirshabelle State participating in the training pointed out both are expecting their work will change a lot and they promised to put into practice the knowledge they have gained.

Abadir Abdulqadir Elmi, Chairperson of FESOJ officially closing the training workshop appreciated the trainees for their active participation and for showing interest and desire to improve their knowledge on professional journalism.

The training workshop for the young journalists is part of a series of capacity building program activities funded by the EU, supported by Free Press Unlimited (FPU) and implemented by FESOJ in cooperation with VIKES.
