Somalia’s Defense Minister, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, held significant discussions with Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler and Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar during his visit to Ankara. The talks focused on “enhancing bilateral cooperation in defense and energy sectors, reflecting the deepening ties between the two nations.”
In a meeting at the Turkish National Defense Ministry headquarters, Minister Nur and his Turkish counterparts engaged in a discussions aimed at strengthening security collaboration and ensuring energy security. Minister Nur described the meetings as insightful and expressed optimism about the future of the Somalia-Turkey partnership.
“I had a productive meeting with my counterpart, H.E. Yaşar Güler, and Energy & Natural Resources Minister, H.E. Alparslan Bayraktar at the Turkish National Defence Ministry headquarters. Our discussions on strengthening defense collaboration and energy security were insightful and productive. Looking forward to continued partnership,” Minister Nur shared on his official X account following the meetings.
Turkey has been a key ally of Somalia, particularly in supporting the National Armed Forces and enhancing Somalia’s defense capabilities. The discussions in Ankara are seen as a continuation of this strong partnership, with both sides committed to deepening their cooperation in areas critical to Somalia’s national security and development.
In addition to defense, the talks also highlighted the importance of energy security, with Turkey offering its expertise and support to help Somalia address its energy challenges.
