Somali Agriculture Minister Attends Key Conference in Morocco

Rabat, Morocco – In an important step to bolster agricultural development and resilience against climate change, the Federal Republic of Somalia’s Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdi Hayir Mareeye, has participated in the 33rd Conference of African Agriculture Ministers in Rabat, Morocco.

The conference, a pivotal event for the continent’s agricultural sector, focused on transformative strategies to reform and enhance the livelihoods of small-scale farmers through rural transformation. It also aimed to equip farmers with the necessary skills and knowledge to adapt to and withstand the adverse effects of climate change.

High-profile attendees included the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the African Union (AU) Commissioner for Agriculture, along with various global representatives and agricultural experts. Minister Mareeye represented Somalia, highlighting the country’s commitment to agricultural innovation and sustainability.

The discussions at the conference are expected to pave the way for new policies and collaborative efforts that will empower small farmers, ensuring food security and economic growth in the face of evolving environmental challenges.
