Mogadisho | QOL | April 15 2020 –Somalia’s prime minister Hassan Ali Khayre has ordered the ministry of finance to immediately release funds to the federal members of states including Banadir region in an effort to combat the spread of coronavirus in the country.
The prime minister, who chaired the Covid-19 National Anti-Corruption Commission’s regular meeting today, has instructed the country’s treasury to facilitate the immediate transfer of $1 million to all regional states.
He said the move was part of a multi-pronged approach that the Federal Government of Somali had adopted to help fight the menace that has so far claimed two lives and infected 60 others.
The Prime Minister noted the significance of unity during this difficult time for the country, calling on the community to pool their efforts in fighting the deadly epidemic.
Health ministers from all regional states and the governor of Banadir region were among the officials who presented reports on COVID-19 updates and their regional needs. They expressed their concern on the fight against covid-19 and the prime minister was pleased, pledging to work closely with them.
Last Month, the federal government has dispatched medical equipment received from the Chinese billionaire and Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma to the regional states to help them tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
